All Is Well
Yesterday we found out that Mocha was not in his pasture. The sun was nearly gone, and I was ready for the day to be over. But instead of a quick before bed treat for the horses, I found Little Joe, alone, waiting for my visit. It was odd to see Little Joe calm and quiet without his pasture buddy. In the past Little Joe would be screaming and running the fenceline when Mocha was out of his sight. So it was strange to find him by himself and not missing Mocha! So, in a flury of activity we set about to find Mocha. Lee jumped in the truck to scout the neighborhood while I checked all the fencelines. Just as it got dark, to my great relief, Mocha came trotting up the hill from the far corner of the pasture. He was fine, just wondering where his carrrot was.
So, the story unfolds as Lee chatted with the adjoining property owner. Turns out that Mocha has been regularly slipping out of our property to graze in the neighbors field, which the nieghbor was happy about. He was glad to have the horse reduce his future fire danger from high dry grass. We had no idea that Mocha was so clever a fence houdini. Sigh. Now we have to close off that part of the pasture until we can re-do the perimeter fence. Add that job to the long list of projects that are competing for our time.
For March, it's hot! The daytime highs will be climbing into the 80's. You can literally see the grass grow from beginning to end of day. All the oaks have burst out in fresh yellow-green tender leaves. Everything is brighter with the golden light cast off from their branches, and in the fullness of day, the new shade is welcomed by all.
Tonight I was enchanted with the view looking up through the new canopy of leaves at the twinkling stars beyond, while the frogs serenaded me. There is no room for worry when such beauty has a grasp on me. Yes, there are questions unanswered, and concerns that will be addressed in time. But for today, all is well. It is well with my soul.
